Meet Sam Cooper

Samuel Cooper, BA

Sam will begin seeing clients at Harmony Holistic in September 2021. He will be offering therapy on a low-cost sliding-scale basis. He will also be taking clients who have Blue Cross Blue Shield insurance. To reserve a session working with him, click the “Get in Contact” button.

Sam Cooper (he/him/they) is a clinical social work intern from the University of Maryland Baltimore. He is also a meditation teacher affiliated with Frederick Meditation Center, currently pursuing formal certification through Tara Brach and Jack Kornfield’s Mindfulness Meditation Teacher Certification Program.

Sam practices from a trauma-sensitive foundation of secular spirituality and eclectic theory, and believes that therapy must be creative, fluid, and collaborative in order to meet the unique and changing needs of each client. With a background in mind-body modalities, artistic and musical techniques, Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), evolutionary psychology, and Buddhist psychology, he has a holistic, person-in-environment view on human wellness.

Deeply invested in liberatory and anti-oppressive work, Sam is committed to creating a safe and welcoming therapeutic container for all people regardless of identity status or category of difference. He has experience working with neurodivergent, disabled, and LGBTQIA+ individuals, as well as immigrant, military, and rural populations. He fundamentally operates from a perspective of harm-reduction and de-stigmatization in all his work.

  • MSW in Social Work from the University of Maryland Baltimore, expected 2022
  • BA from the University of Maryland College Park in American Studies
  • BA from the University of Maryland College Park in English Language and Literature

Sam has a dual Bachelor’s in American Studies and English Language and Literature from the University of Maryland College Park, which represents a capacity for both wide-angle social-cultural awareness as well as close reading of the narrative threads that form the tapestry of our lives. Interested in how consciousness change can affect both profound personal healing in addition to society-wide transformation, Sam’s work is ultimately dedicated to the flourishing of all beings.

Sam is being supervised at Harmony Holistic by Kyle Collins, LCSW-C, MD License #23971.
