Kathryn DeYoung, M.A., M.S., LGMFT
Licensed Graduate Marriage and Family Therapist
About Kathryn
Kathryn brings a rare blend of clinical warmth, scientific insight, and real-world understanding of how people make sense of themselves and their relationships. She is dedicated to creating a trusted and confidential space where clients can make informed decisions for themselves, their relationships, and their families. Her approach is collaborative and direct, grounded in both empathy and expertise. Kathryn believes therapy invites us to confront discomfort with courage and humor, exploring the parts of ourselves we often avoid in order to gain clarity and create meaningful change.
Relationships & Dating
As a relationship expert, Kathryn works with partners to strengthen connection, repair conflict, and deepen intimacy. She also has specialized experience working with individuals navigating the complexities of modern dating, coping with heartbreak, or rebuilding after a breakup or divorce. She helps clients gain clarity, rebuild confidence, and create a clear path forward in their relationships.
Her approach is shaped by post-graduate training in Couple and Family Therapy and mentorship with the late Susan J. Elliott, best-selling author of Getting Past Your Breakup: How to Turn a Devastating Loss into the Best Thing That Ever Happened to You and Getting Back Out There: Secrets to Successful Dating and Finding Real Love After the Big Breakup.
She brings particular expertise in working with non-traditional family structures, military families, first responders, and men’s mental health.
Mental Health Navigation
Kathryn empowers clients to make informed, effective choices by drawing on over 15 years of experience in neuroscience and mental health research, as well as a broad professional referral network. She frequently connects clients with trusted experts whose work aligns with both evidence-based practices and each person’s unique needs.
Her approach is grounded not only in research and clinical expertise but also in a deep respect for holistic healing. When it aligns with a client’s goals, Kathryn collaborates with functional medicine doctors, Vedic practitioners, and intuitive healers to bridge mind, body, and spirit, always guided by what feels meaningful and appropriate for each person.
Career Coaching
Kathryn also offers career counseling for high-achieving individuals who feel stuck or are questioning their next professional move. She brings the same clarity and structure from her therapy work into career coaching, helping clients clarify priorities, assess options, and develop actionable strategies, whether they’re seeking advancement, considering a career change, or redefining success on their own terms.
Training & Approach
With dual training in Clinical Psychology and Couple and Family Therapy, Kathryn blends scientific insight with relational depth. She practices from a foundation of technical eclecticism, which is the intentional use of multiple evidence-based approaches tailored to each client, rather than a one-size-fits-all model. Her work combines the structure of proven cognitive therapies with a deeper focus on emotions, relationships, and embodied experience – helping clients feel understood and supported.
These include therapies such as Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), and Solution-Focused Therapy, all viewed through a systemic lens that considers the broader relational, cultural, and historical context shaping her clients’ lives. She has completed additional training in Internal Family Systems (IFS), somatic techniques, codependency, and men’s mental health.
Working Together
Kathryn offers discreet, high-touch support for clients who value thoughtful guidance, clear structure, and meaningful progress. She helps clients develop a deeper understanding of themselves, navigate complexity with confidence, and make decisions that align with their values, relationships, and long-term goals. To explore fit, reach out to schedule a brief consultation.
