Joan Moore, Psy.D., M.A.

Dr. Joan Moore (she/her) has a passion for helping people navigate the complexities of life and strives to assist them with reaching their personal goals. Joan graduated from The Chicago School of Professional Psychology, Washington DC campus, where she received a PsyD in clinical psychology. Additionally, she earned her Bachelor’s in psychology from St. John’s University and her Master’s in general psychology from Pace University, both schools located in New York. Joan uses a cognitive behavioral, trauma-informed, and integrative approach to help individuals and couples explore their thoughts, emotions, and life experiences in a therapeutic environment. She provides an empathic, non-judgmental, inviting space for clients that nurtures curiosity, personal growth, and exploration. 

Joan has experience working with individuals from a culturally and diagnostically diverse population in many settings, including inpatient, outpatient, schools, and private practice. Additionally, she has clinical experience working with individuals ages 8 through 75 with concerns such as, substance use, severe mental illnesses, developmental concerns, PTSD, anxiety, depression, and concerns related to school and general life challenges. Her varied clinical experience contributes to her flexibility in using a variety of therapeutic approaches to help clients reach their personal goals. Joan also understands the importance of building a positive therapeutic environment and works diligently to identify clients’ specific needs.

Her research interests include understanding how mental health stigma and cultural factors can impact an individuals’ perceptions and willingness to seek mental health treatment. Joan is particularly interested in working with survivors of trauma, adults, couples, adolescents and their families, members of the LGBTQIA+ community, and individuals from marginalized communities. She takes a strengths-based, trauma-informed approach, recognizing the impact systemic oppression and stigma can have on the well-being of individuals, families, and the community.

At Harmony Holistic, Joan looks forward to providing a safe and welcoming therapeutic environment for clients. She believes building a positive therapeutic rapport is necessary to create a space where clients feel comfortable exploring their needs. Her person-centered and warm approach further cultivates the therapeutic environment. Joan welcomes people of all religious faiths, nationalities, sexual orientations, and gender identities. Joan is practicing as a postdoctoral psychology associate under the supervision of Dr. Melanie Ricaurte (MD License #05428).
