Michael McGill Jr Therapist and Counselor

Meet Michael McGill, Jr.

Michael McGill Jr., LGPC, NCC
Licensed Graduate Professional Counselor
National Certified Counselor

Michael McGill, Jr. is an award-winning and nationally board-certified mental health psychotherapist, TV personality, and thought-provoking writer who’s been featured on CNN, ABC, CBS, NBC, FOX, and host of other networks. As a wellness advocate with a background in education, social psychology, and a post-graduate background in clinical mental health counseling from Johns Hopkins University, Michael works to help build human connections and help others to recognize their truest potentials.

Michael has experience providing therapeutic support to those who have challenges with self-esteem, relational conflicts, existential conflict/challenges, anxiety, adjustment issues, trauma recovery, assertiveness training, anger management, parenting, grief and loss, among other life challenges. Additionally, as a former licensed financial educator & professional, Michael also has a unique ability to support individuals and couples with financial therapy techniques; this work seeks to improve their relationship with money and their mindset surrounding finances. In his clinical setting, Michael integrates both cognitive-based and psychoanalytic modalities into his work with patients. As a wounded healer himself (and active therapy patient), he has an aptness for supporting people to interrupt the negative patterns in their lives, gain clarity from chaos, honor the uniqueness of their own spirit, heal their broken hearts so heartbreak won’t be their home, and equip them to cultivate healthy relationships with others.

Michael works with young (emerging) adults on figuring out life, single individuals navigating their existence and independence, couples navigating the terrain of relationships, families seeking to unite, survivors of trauma seeking to overcome the residue of pain, and adult individuals who want to move forward in life with tools to heal, live wholeheartedly, and be well using holistic methods. In each session he strives to incorporate warmth, humor, gentle directness, and high positive regard. Michael’s thinks of his role as similar to a gardener: he helps you unpack what’s in the soil of your soul. Together, you and Michael will go on a journey of your lived experiences with the intention of meeting your established therapy goals.

With regular appearances on TV morning shows across the United States and abroad, Michael discusses how we can live, love, and lead well. As a lifelong student of healthy relationships & human development, Michael is an unrelenting optimist who believes that we can be great individually, but we can be unshakably extraordinary when we join and commune in healthy relationships with other people. He’s ready to support you with tapping into the power within.

Are you seeking to navigate grief, loss, change, shame, trials, and/or regret? Do you want to be healthier and live more holistically? Michael’s role is to empower you with the awareness and insight to better understand yourself, as well as create the life that you desire and deserve. Michael is especially interested in working with people having existential challenges, survivors of trauma and adverse childhood experiences, couples, those who are seeking meaning from life, those aiming to deal with shame or regret or loss, and those seeking to deal with the past in order to create a healthier future. He also enjoys working with people who’ve lived in the crevices of heartbreak but want to heal, those who want to strengthen their relationships (couples/romantic, familial, friendship, etc), and those people navigating the grief that comes with change and loss that life brings.
